Shopmobility Safety Considerations

All equipment must be kept at a reduced speed at all times.

Be courteous and show consideration for other users of the Town Centre. Remember that pedestrians often stop suddenly and you may not be able to stop as quickly, so reduce your speed and keep your distance in all areas.

Reduce your speed when cornering, go slow when reversing.

Go slowly when entering and leaving all buildings, and be extra cautious when entering and leaving lifts.

Never overload the equipment with shopping bags. Do not hang bags on the scooter handlebars, it will make the equipment unstable and also cause damage. If using electrical/manual wheelchairs please use bag provided for shopping, not the handles.

When leaving the vehicle unattended always take the key with you and please do not leave the equipment where it will inconvenience others.

Always use dropped kerbs when using any of our equipment. Always approach the dropped kerb straight on and never at an angle and remember to reduce your speed.

Only the person who has been given our training is to use our equipment. Under no circumstances should children or animals ride on the equipment with you.

Always turn powered equipment off when stationary and in lifts.

Electric and manual wheelchairs must never be left unattended.

If you need an adjustment made to the equipment never attempt to do it yourself, please ask a shopmobility member to make the adjustment for you.

If you have an accident of any sort always let shopmobility staff know, however minor, this is so we can give the equipment a safety check before somebody else uses it and take any other action required.
