DAD Personal Assistant (EH - A2W)

Job Type: DAD

DAD are looking for Personal Assistant to support DAD employees, with mainly administration tasks, at Enterprise House.

The purpose of the post is to deliver high quality personal assistance service to a number of disabled people who work and are supported at Darlington Association on Disability based on set rota of tasks and work.  Each employee who will be supported, will direct their personal assistant in the tasks that need completing on a daily basis, based on individual needs.

Some duties may include:

  • Support disabled employee to fulfil their job role through providing personal assistance as required.
  • Provide personal assistance and support to people who we are supporting within project.
  • To undertake administration tasks as required. This will include note taking, filing, updating calendars, completing forms and paperwork, arranging appointments, database, and other systems.
  • Support with practical tasks, such as preparation of lunch and drinks throughout the day and support with mobility needs.

Grade:                          £9.50 per hour

Holiday entitlement:      25 days pro rata (additional day per year after 3 years service up to 30 days)

Hours:                          Full time/part time (please state on your application the number of hours you would prefer to work)                            

Mileage:                       Mileage allowance payable for mileage undertaken during work.

Disability Access and Information Officer

Job Type: DAD

DAD are looking to recruit a Disability Access and Information Officer to raise awareness and understanding of the barriers faced by disabled people when accessing the community, goods, services, and information and advice and influence change to improve access for disabled people. 

Grade/Salary:                       £19,484 to £20,420 depending on experience

Hours:                                  30 hours per week

Holidays:                              25 days per annum pro rata (increasing by one day after 3 years service to 30 days) plus bank holidays

Objective of the Post:          To raise awareness and understanding of the barriers faced by disabled people when accessing the community, goods, services, and information and advice and influence change to improve access for disabled people. 

The post would involve working with planners, developers, and decision makers to ensure developments / changes to physical environment are as accessible as possible for disabled people; other organisations and agencies to ensure that disabled people have equal access to information, advice, and support.  It would also include supporting disabled people to challenge decisions that affect their ability to access the community, goods, services, and information and advice, and working with the Towns Fund team at Darlington Borough Council on all relevant projects.

We are looking for someone with experience in working with and supporting disabled people to achieve personal goals, and has the knowledge of the Social Model of Disability and principles of equal opportunities.  Excellent communication skills on an individual and group basis and the ability to relate to a wide cross section of people is essential.

The following qualifications would be preferable: relevant qualification in a building discipline, rights-based qualification, and training qualifications as well as experience of design or audit of accessible environments.

Duties: include assisting to maintain her personal hygiene, including assistance with washing and dressing, as well as helping with basic day-to-day tasks within the home, alongside administrative tasks such as paying bills. However, the care role also includes getting to know the lady personally and providing emotional support and company, which will contribute positively to her wellbeing. The personal assistant for this lady will also extend to helping her to take part in leisure activities therefore, duties vary substantially so that no two days are the same.

Essential Criteria: A full driving licence to be able to drive for the employer, to be able to go swimming, be computer literate and be comfortable around dogs.

Hours: Up to 43.5 hours available per week which can be job shared. A suitable job share could be:

Post 1: 20 hrs per week 8am – 6pm x 2 weekdays (i.e. Monday to Friday)

Post 2: 18 hrs per week - 8am – 6pm x 1 weekday (i.e. Monday to Friday) plus 9.30am to 5.30pm Saturdays.

Post 3: 5.5 hrs per week for 4 bedtime calls 8.30pm to 10pm (1 call per week will be only an hour). This may particularly suit a person living within the local area.

DAD (Centre for Independent Living) is seeking to recruit an Independent Advocate who is passionate about advocacy and upholding and safeguarding the rights of people we support.

Experience and qualifications in advocacy is preferred. 

Salary: £11.38 – £12.71 per hour depending on Qualifications and Experience

Please note: The  Higher pay scales will be awarded to successful applicants who are in possession of a Diploma in advocacy including  IMCA and IMHA units. The starting rate will be based on existing advocacy experience and any advocacy qualification already achieved.

Hours: Full time/part time hours available

Location: Based at the offices of Darlington Association on Disability (travel is expected across the Borough of Darlington, Tees Valley and regular travel to other areas in the North East.) Home working is also  expected during COVID restrictions and will be considered as part of your role outside of restrictions.

DAD (Centre for Independent Living) is seeking to recruit an Trainee Advocate who is passionate about advocacy and upholding and safeguarding the rights of people we support. 

The role will involve supporting people to speak for themselves, to be fully involved in the decisions and processes that affect their lives, to obtain information and to understand their options and rights.  

This training post would provide an incredible opportunity for the right candidate and would include fully funded training to achieve a level 4 diploma National Advocacy Qualification and completed within agreed timescales, some home study is expected. As qualifications are achieved and experience gained, salary will increase accordingly to £12.71 per hour.
