DAD Personal Assistant - Driver

The Independent Living Hub is looking for a Personal Assistant - Driver to provide a high-quality vehicle service by transporting disabled people and carers, using our wheelchair accessible vehicle or your own vehicle where applicable.  They will also, to assist with practical and personal tasks, supporting individuals to access The Hub, meetings, training, education, social, leisure, voluntary opportunities, and employment.  This will include providing support of a personal nature.

The Personal Assistant will be required to produce and oversee sessions for groups of people that are suitable to their individuals needs, that are engaging, stimulating, educational and are in line with personal choice and support requirements.  A Personal Assistant should understand that their role, is doing things with people not for people, whilst always working to the Social Model of Disability.

Given the nature of the job role, we would prefer candidates to be double vaccinated against Covid.

An experienced driver and clean driving licence is essential 

The successful candidate should be dependable, respectful, courteous, well mannered, smart appearance, able to maintain confidentiality, ability to work with all of the people that we support and treat people equally.  Previous experience of working with disabled people and a good level of literacy and numeracy is essential

Grade:  £8.91 per hour

Hours:  15 hours per week minimum

Typical care duties are wide ranging. The job revolves around helping the lady with her immediate needs.

Duties: include assisting to maintain her personal hygiene, including assistance with washing and dressing, as well as helping with basic day-to-day tasks within the home, alongside administrative tasks such as paying bills. However, the care role also includes getting to know the lady personally and providing emotional support and company, which will contribute positively to her wellbeing. The personal assistant for this lady will also extend to helping her to take part in leisure activities therefore, duties vary substantially so that no two days are the same.

Essential Criteria: A full driving licence. 

Hours: Up to 43.5 hours available per week which can be job shared. It is anticipated these hours will be worked over three to four days per week – times and days can be discussed at interview but it is anticipated full days will be required plus 'bedtime' calls. May particularly suit applicants local to Redcar.
